How to use the generator
-
1
Choose how many lines you want. A Lotto ticket needs at least four.
-
2
Leave "Add a Powerball" on if you plan to play Powerball.
-
3
To keep some numbers, open "Keep my numbers" and enter up to five. They stay on every line.
-
4
Press "Generate numbers". Press it again for a fresh set, or use "Copy all" to save them.
Will random numbers improve my chances?
No, and nothing else will either. Every combination of six numbers has exactly the same chance of being drawn: 1 in 3,838,380 for Lotto Division 1, and 1 in 53,737,320 when you add Powerball. A generator doesn't predict anything. What it does is save you time and keep you away from the patterns lots of other people play.
Why avoiding popular numbers can matter
Many players use birthdays, so numbers from 1 to 31 are picked more often than 32 to 40. Neat patterns, like a straight row on the ticket or 1-2-3-4-5-6, are also surprisingly common. These lines win no more often than any others, but when they do, the prize is split between more people. Random lines spread across the whole range, so if you do win, you're less likely to share.
What to do with your numbers
Take them to any Lotto NZ retailer or enter them in MyLotto as your own picks. Before you play, you can open "Analyse" on any line to see how often each number has come up and when it was last drawn. That's history, not a forecast, but it's interesting to look at.
Lotto number generator FAQ
Is the Lotto number generator free?
Yes. There's no sign-up and nothing to buy. The numbers are only suggestions; you play them through Lotto NZ.
Are the numbers really random?
Yes. They come from a cryptographically secure random source, the same kind used for security keys. Each number from 1 to 40 has an equal chance on every line.
Is this the same as a Lucky Dip?
It works the same way. A Lucky Dip is random numbers chosen by the Lotto NZ terminal. Here you see the numbers first, and you can keep some of your own.
Can a line have the same number twice?
No. Each line has six different numbers, just like a real Lotto line. Different lines can share numbers.
How many lines should I generate?
As many as you'd play. A Lotto ticket needs at least four lines, and each line costs $0.70 before Powerball and Strike.
