When Lotto results are published
Lotto is drawn on Wednesday at 8:20 pm and Saturday at 8:00 pm NZ time, and ticket sales close at 7:30 pm on both nights. We add the winning numbers to this page as soon as the draw is confirmed, usually within a few minutes. The full prize breakdown follows once Lotto NZ publishes the number of winners in each division.
Checking your ticket
Compare your numbers with the draw above, or use the Lotto checker to see what each line won, including Powerball and Strike. For an older ticket, find its date in the Lotto results archive. The rules and odds for every division are in our Lotto guide.
Reading the prize breakdown
Each division has a prize pool that's shared between every winning line, so the amount per winner depends on how many people matched the same numbers. First Division is a guaranteed $1 million pool: one winner takes it all, while three winners get $333,333 each.
Two divisions pay in tickets rather than cash. Three main numbers wins four bonus Lotto lines for the next draw, and one Strike number in the right position wins a bonus Strike line.
Claiming a prize
You have 12 months from the draw date to claim a prize. After that it's forfeited and the money goes into Lotto NZ's prize reserve fund, so keep your ticket until you've checked it against the official result.
What happens when nobody wins
Each game handles it differently. Lotto First Division doesn't roll over: it stays at $1 million, and any unwon money goes into the prize reserve fund. Powerball First Division does roll over, growing each draw until it reaches $60 million. The next draw is then Must Be Won, and if nobody matches every number, the money moves down to the next division with winners. Strike rolls over up to ten times, and the tenth draw is Must Be Won. Our Lotto statistics show how often each has happened.
